The BirdieSisters made it to Jekyll Island and gave it their best. It was another exciting time on a prestigious golf course with kids from all around the United States and some from outside the states. The weather was in the low to upper sixties with some rain and winds. Nevertheless, the young golfers played like champions. They displayed confidence, focus and professionalism. Congratulations to a few of our friends from the midwest who finished in the top three. They proved that there is hope for golfers from cold weather states. One finished first in the boys 10-year old division and two finished 2nd and 3rd in the girls 10-year old division. We would also like to congratulate our friend from Virginia who won the girls 8 year-old division! Keep up the good work.

BirdieSister Myah Jackson set a goal to finish in the top ten in the Girls 8 year-old division at the 2009 U.S. Kids Regional Tournament in Jekyll Island, GA. Starting out with a 44 on day one and dropping two strokes on day two (42), Myah Jackon finished 9th in her division with a two-day score of 86. Day one was cloudy and the temperature was in the upper 60s. Day two was sunny but windy and cool (low 60s). Myah drove the ball well both days (didn’t miss a fairway). However, as expected from playing indoors over the past several months, her short game wasn’t as consistent. All in all, Myah’s game met expectations. Myah is looking forward to warmer weather in the windy city so she can get outside and improve her short game. Congratulations Myah!

Erica and Myah Jackson are preparing to compete in the U.S. Kids Golf Regional Competition in Jekyll, Island GA. They are leaving Chicago on Friday, playing a practice round on Saturday, and competing on Sunday and Monday (February 16th and 17th). The Jekyll Island Championship is an amazing event. Kids come from all around the world to compete. In addition to golf, there is a banquet for all of the players and their parents on Saturday night. After the opening ceremony, the kids can interact with each other and play in an indoor fun area prior to becoming serious competitors for the rest of the event. This is BirdieSister Erica Jackson’s last 9-hole tournament. She plans to make it memorable!
Unlike much of their competition, the BirdieSisters haven’t played a round of outdoor golf since they competed at Doral (Miami, FL) in December. Yes, there are some drawbacks to living in Chicago. However, the BirdieSisters have been practicing at home and at an indoor golf dome in the Chicago area. While indoor golf isn’t ideal, its the next best thing to playing the course. The BirdieSisters are praying for nice weather and a safe and successful trip. You can follow the tournament each day by visiting www.uskidsgolf.com. Thank you for being a supporter of the BirdieSisters!
