Practice, Practice, Practice!

The BirdieSisters have their noses to the grind stone practicing for their upcoming tournament, 2010 U.S. Kids Golf Jekyll Island Cup  held on February 14 and 15.  The fields are small this year but may be one of the strongest ever.   It is going to be a tough fight for these cold weather golfers.  For more information see ;http://www.uskidsgolf.com/eng/regional/redirect.cfm?sectionID=b2c/tournaments/tournamentResults.cfm&age_group_id=2&type=RC&location_id=3346&tournament_id=777&pastResult=true for Myah and For Erica see ; http://www.uskidsgolf.com/eng/regional/redirect.cfm?sectionID=b2c/tournaments/tournamentResults.cfm&age_group_id=4&type=RC&location_id=3346&tournament_id=777&pastResult=trueHow we look at this tournament as the beginning of the season and playing with a lot of warm weather competitors helps the BirdieSisters get better as the season progresses.

Golf Outing For Chicago State University Women’s Golf Team

Sharon Rushing, Alexis Mihelich, Marilee Gallagher and the BirdieSisters Erica and Myah Jackson The BirdieSisters played in the Chicago State University (CSU) Women’s Golf team’s first annual golf outing.  The outing was sponsored by the Rotary Club of New Lenox and CSU’s golf coach (men and women), Ms. Alexis Mihelich, at the Sanctuary Golf Course in New Lenox, Illinois (58 miles 1hour 5 mintues from home).  The game was 4 person best ball and the BirdieSisters were honored to play with Ms. Sharon Rushing and Ms. Marilee Gallagher.   The group had a 9:00 am tee time with a 3:00 pm dinner.  The ladies played well together,  shooting 2 under — 70.  Myah won closest to the pin on hole 4.  It was an 80 yard par 3 and she placed her ball 6 feet from the cup.  On the 6th and 11th holes the ladies of the CSU golf team ( Ms.Tessa Harp, Ms. Brittany Johnson, Diana Flores and Ms. Andrea Rosado) showed their skills with their irons.  The weather was great, the food was good, and most of all the girls had a chance to make new friends.  Good luck to all the golfers at Chicago State University from the BirdieSisters and their family.

Erica Jackson Tops At “Cog Hill”

Matt Vandenbergh and BirdieSister Erica JacksonBirdieSister Erica Jackson played in the Illinois Junior Golf Association’s event number 7, “Cog Hill Sizzler,”  at Cog Hill Country Club in Lemont Illinois (located 29 miles from home/1hr.).  The Weather was a very cool 59 degrees with clouds and the chance of rain all day.

After a double boggy at the first hole in the last 3 tournaments, Erica Jackson came out with a new attitude and started her round with a par.  In fact, Erica did not make a double boggy all day.   Her driver has found a glitch, which inhibits control and distance.  So, we know her short game was on the mark.  Erica has 2 lessons with her coach Alexis this week and she hopes to work out her driver issues while continuing to improve her short game.  To see more stats and results visit: http://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga9/event/ijga911/contest/16/leaderboard.htm

Winter Practice In Chicago

Alexis Mihelich, Myah Jackson and Erica Jackson            Alexis Mihelich, Myah Jackson and Erica Jackson

The BirdieSisters are hoping that Spring is coming soon so they can get outdoors!  Currently, they practice 2 hours a week at the Village of Bridgeview Sports Dome with Alexis Mihelich (amihelic@csu.edu).   Alexis has taken an interest in helping the BirdieSisters refine their game.  The BirdieSisters appreciate Alexis’s time and support.  The BirdieSisters love having exposure to a female role model who understands the unique challenges of female golfers.  The BirdieSisters also practice two days a week in their basement.  Given their involvement in school, dance, Girl Scouts, Tae Kwan do, piano and church, this is about all the practice the BirdieSisters get during the school year.  But lookout, things will certainly change with the temperature!
