BirdieSisters

Where greatness begins at home

Finally, A Trophy at Pepsi Little People’s!

Finally, after 5 years of participating in the Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships in Quincy, IL one of the BirdieSisters, Erica Jackson, brought home a trophy.  Pepsi Little People’s was the first major tournament in which Erica played at the age of 7.  Erica’s two-day tournament became a one-day tournament after the course became unplayable due to massive rain falls leading up to and on day one of the tournament.  With only 18 holes of play on day 2, Erica managed to pull out a second place finish at Arrowhead Golf Course.

Myah Jackson struggled a bit on day one after an hour rain delay on her course — Westview Golf Course in Quincy, IL.  However, she dropped her score by 5 shots on day two and finished in 9th place.  The temperatures in Quincy were in the mid-high 90s during our entire stay — making 36 holes of golf very tough for Myah Jackson, who just started playing 18 holes consistently this year.

Although the fields were much smaller this year, the competition was very steep — especially for Myah.  Both Erica and Myah were in the bottom of their age divisions, girls 10-11 and girls 12-13.  As always, Pepsi Little People’s brought together some of the best junior golfers from around the world.  Thanks to Nan Ryan and her volunteers for a wonderful event and for the scholarship she provided to both Erica and Myah to help defray expenses from the tournament! Erica Jackson played at “Westview Golf Course” in Quincy with a small but very strong field this year. She played holes 19 thur 27 two times with a total distance of 4918 yards.  The course play the girls tough, lots of  hills and the greens were as fast as the weather was hot.  Erica had to start both her rounds without a caddy, but help kicked in about the fourth hole and she battle her way to a respectable score. Last year she only managed to post a score of  197, so dropping her score some 29 shots shows her hard work.  For Erica Jackson”s results see :http://littlepeoplesgolf.com/2009tournament/results/4G09-final.pdf

Myah Jackson played at ” Arrowhead Heights Golf Course ” in Camp Point Illinois 38 miles from Quincy. She did get off to one of  her best start in her young golf career 5 pars and a birdie to start the first 6 holes, but on the 7 she missed her first shot and could not find it in herself to regroup and limp home to a 6 over par.  The second day she opened with a boggey and fought her way to 3 over par score. Myah”s course also had lots of hills. The last 3 holes were par 3″s and the distance was between Myah”s clubs which made for a good learning leason for Ms. Jackson.  Myah also drop her score from last year some 18 shots.
