BirdieSister Erica Jackson fighting back!

Matt Vandenbergh and BirdieSister Erica JacksonToday BirdieSister Erica Jackson played in the Illinois Junior Golf Association YDP event at Glenview National 9 Golf Course in Glenview, IL.  38 miles (45 minutes) from home.  With an 8:56 tee time we had to leave the house at 7:00 a.m. due to the heavy volume of traffic.  The temps were in the low 60′s with light rain.

Erica appears to be fighting her way back to controlling her total golf game.  Erica finished in first place by 10 strokes, putting her final score at 3 over par.  For results, stats and photo visit:

Let’s hope Erica can keep the upward momentum flowing!  Tomorrow is another day and another tournament so check back tomorrow for her results.  Go Erica!

Erica Jackson Tops At “Cog Hill”

Matt Vandenbergh and BirdieSister Erica JacksonBirdieSister Erica Jackson played in the Illinois Junior Golf Association’s event number 7, “Cog Hill Sizzler,”  at Cog Hill Country Club in Lemont Illinois (located 29 miles from home/1hr.).  The Weather was a very cool 59 degrees with clouds and the chance of rain all day.

After a double boggy at the first hole in the last 3 tournaments, Erica Jackson came out with a new attitude and started her round with a par.  In fact, Erica did not make a double boggy all day.   Her driver has found a glitch, which inhibits control and distance.  So, we know her short game was on the mark.  Erica has 2 lessons with her coach Alexis this week and she hopes to work out her driver issues while continuing to improve her short game.  To see more stats and results visit: http://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga9/event/ijga911/contest/16/leaderboard.htm

BirdieSister Erica Jackson Plays “Flagg Creek”

Matt Vandenbergh and BirdieSister Erica JacksonThe Illinois Junior Golf Association started its season for the 10-11 year old girls and boys on Friday, June 12th.  The first tournament was held at “Flagg Creek Golf Course” in Countryside, Illinois — approximately 20.5 miles from home (approx. 40 minutes).  Erica’s tee time was 8:46 a.m.   Taking the morning rush hour traffic into consideration, we departed home at 6:30 am.  When we left the house it was 51 degrees  with light rain.  By the start of the tournament it was in the mid-60s, and by the 9th hole turn it was 77 degrees without a cloud in the sky.

BirdieSister Erica Jackson is trying to focus more on her start, but today was not the turning point.  The greens changed speeds two or three times during the round, making putting even more difficult.  She started slow again but managed to overcome some formidable competition.

BirdieSisters Erica Jackson’s First Golf Competition, Gone!

BirdieSister Myah Jackson

Ten years ago, GOLF CHANNEL kicked-off its first junior golf initiative with the Drive, Chip & Putt program to help grow the game of golf.  Our original mission to provide kids with a fun and free way to learn and play has proved successful, and we feel the program has accomplished its objective.  Therefore, GOLF CHANNEL is suspending the Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt program as we look for new ways to promote the game to juniors.

We would like to thank all of the participants and their families for making the program a success over the past 10 years.  We hope to have announcements in the future regarding our junior golf initiatives.

BirdieSister Erica Jackson Writes Poetry

BirdieSister Erica Jackson

My Basement
Erica J.

Nothing would sleep in the basement, empty as a mansion with only
one rocking chair, like nothing had a switch, a sound every
second as if someone was beating a drum.
Oh! and a bathroom you wouldn’t dare to go in ’cause
the toilet seat is always cold and there’s only 2 out of
4 lights working, you can’t smell a thing but fear
is in your heart and when you run up the stairs it makes a
creaking sound and you swear you will never go
back down there again. But you will.

Supporters of the BirdieSisters Step Up to the Tee!

BirdieSisters and SupportersOver the past few weeks, the BirdieSisters have received surprises in the mail from two of their supporters.  They received tools that allow them to continue honing their golf skills indoors.  The weather in Chicago today is 46 degrees and raining.  However, the BirdieSisters must continue practicing for their upcoming tournaments.  Thank you to those supporters who have stepped up to the tee!

They received a P3 Pro Swing Golf Simulator that allows them to play simulated rounds of golf indoors.  This system, in conjunction with a computer and digital video camera, allows golfers to receive instant feedback with any club, with or without a ball.  Specifically, it measures club speed, swing tempo, swing path, and club face angle, angle of attack, and toe and heel heights.  It then calculates ball flight and distance, factoring in course terrain and wind speed.

They also received The Net Return, which allows them to practice their full swings, chipping and pitching.  This Net returns the ball to them automatically after hitting it.

Additionally, they received a Big Moss Putting Green.  It has a built-in down grain and rolls like a freshly-cut bent grass green. Break Snakes provide unlimited contours that you create, as well as realistic putting and chipping situations.

http://www.bigmoss.com/

Last but not least, they received a Putting Plane.  The Putting Plane System gives you instant feedback on the critical fundamentals of putting: eyes over the line of the putt, alignment to the cup, putter face alignment, and shoulder alignment. The Extension Mirror gives a larger view of your shoulder alignment.

Thanks again for helping the BirdieSisters!
