2011 Tiger Woods Junior National Golf Team!

Once again the Birdiesisters would like thank the Tiger Woods Foundation for accepting them on the 2011 Tiger Woods National Junior Golf Team.  This is a very high honor!  Special thanks to Ms. Stacy Stark (Director, tournament services) and all those involved in making this decision.  This honor permits the girls to play in what some would say is the biggest junior golf tournament in the world, “The Callaway Junior World Golf  Championships.”   This tournament is held at the prestigious   “Torrey Pines Golf Course” in beautiful San Diego, CA.  The girls are looking forward to moving up the ranks in this world tournament.

The 2010 Callaway Golf Junior World Golf Championships

The weather was perfect for golf when the BirdieSisters arrived in San Diego, CA on July 9, 2010 – sunny and low to mid-70s.  They joined over 1000 junior golfers from over 60 different countries at this prestigious event where only the best golfers are allowed to participate.  Practice rounds went really well for the BirdieSisters, who were playing at very elite golf courses.  Myah played 18 short holes at the Lomas Santa Fe Executive Golf Course and Erica played 18 long holes at The Country Club of Rancho Bernardo.

Both Erica and Myah experienced 2 days of decent – good golf play.  However, both Erica and Myah also experienced one day of course challenges.  Erica couldn’t buy a putt and Myah lost 3 balls (one never came out of a tree, one went out of bounds, and one dropped in the water).  Although they didn’t come close to winning their divisions, they managed to put up respectable scores most days and Myah managed to finish in the top half of her division.  As with any world championship, one bad day keeps the trophies away.  For more information about the results visit:

2nd Annual Stars And Stripes Junior Classic

BirdieSisters Erica and Myah Jackson

The BirdieSisters Played today in the Stars And Stripes Junior Classic at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in West Chicago, Illinois.  Great day for golf here in Chicago (or should I say West Chicago).  St. Andrews is 46 miles (1 hour 12 minutes) from home.  The golf course was in great shape today, which made for some very good scores.

BirdieSister Myah Jackson played only 9 holes and was very excited to play after the results from her last junior golf tournament.  I think Myah’s excitment and her self-inflicted, high expectations forced her into a lot of missed putts.  Myah played today with Ms. Hallie Kent from Mequon, WI ( Myah played with Hallie at The Callaway World Championship in San Deigo earlier this summer) and it was a great show to see.  Hallie led most of the way and was up 3 shots with 4 holes to go.  There were also several other players in Myah’s group.  Myah ended up shooting 3 over and somehow managed to find away to win.  Myah thanks Hallie for a great round and is looking forward to playing with her in the future.

BirdieSister Erica Jackson found her driver last week, she did not know where it was or how to get it back most of the summer.  The good news is — it’s back and we’re thankful!   Erica opened with 5 straight pars on her way to a front nine 1 over — 36.  The back 9 held her only double bogey of the day on hole 18, which pushed her score up to a 4 over — 41.  That’s right, 77.   I told you she found her driver.  Let’s hope she keeps up with her things from now on.

The BirdieSisters and family would like to thank Mr. Shawn Furrie and his family for the great team effort it took to run a tournament as well as this one.  Thanks also to the staff and management at St. Andrews Golf and Counrty Club.   For more info on this tournament see :   http://juniorclassicgolf.net/.

Results “Dupage County Junior Classic”

Matt Vandenbergh and BirdieSister Myah JacksonThe BirdieSisters played this weekend in the ” Dupage County Junior Classic” presented by Illinios Junior Golf Association.  This tournament is a Junior World Qualifer.  The tournament was held at serveral local courses thoughout Dupage County in Illinois.  BirdieSister Erica Jackson played at Maple Meadows Golf Club in Wood Dale Illinois.  After completing the first round and signing the score card with the score of 89, Erica’s mom informed her that she thought her score card was incorrect.  After talking through the holes, Erica agreed that the score she recorded was inaccurate.  This is called a rule 6-6b (d) violation.  Therefore, at the beginning of the day two Erica declared herself disqualified.  She felt it was the only thing she could do.

BirdieSister Myah Jackson played at Green Meadows Golf  Club in Westmont IIllinois.  Myah is having an inauspicious start to her season.  Her score has not yet reached the point she thinks it should be, however she has found a way to stay competitive.  She managed to lower her score by five shots the second day and overall her attitude about her game has improved a great deal.  For more information about this tournament see; http://dcjc.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/dcjc9/event/dcjc91/contest/10/leaderboard.htm
