BirdieSisters on top at “Stoney Creek”

BirdieSister Myah Jackson and Matt Vandenbergh BirdieSister Erica Jackson and Matt Vandenbergh

Illinois Junior Golf  Association”s second tournament at “Stoney Creek Golf Club” in Oak Lawn Illinois.  The tournament’s location was only 18 miles away with a tee time of 8:24 a.m. for Erica and 9:20 a.m. for Myah.  We departed the house at 6:00 a.m.  and arrived at the course at 7:10 a.m.  The weather today is outstanding 77 degrees and very little clouds.

Myah Jackson did not have any female competitors today, so she set her sites on competing with the boys.  Myah carried her fire from the last tournament right into this one.  She started strong and finish with a score of 40 which was better than the boys by 9 shots.  Way to go Myah.

Erica Jackson was mentally drained from her dance recital last night, but manage to stay a couple of paces in front of  her competition. She shoot a 83 to win her age group.  Sometimes you have to learn how to servile on the course.  Good job Erica.

BirdieSister Erica Jackson Plays “Flagg Creek”

Matt Vandenbergh and BirdieSister Erica JacksonThe Illinois Junior Golf Association started its season for the 10-11 year old girls and boys on Friday, June 12th.  The first tournament was held at “Flagg Creek Golf Course” in Countryside, Illinois — approximately 20.5 miles from home (approx. 40 minutes).  Erica’s tee time was 8:46 a.m.   Taking the morning rush hour traffic into consideration, we departed home at 6:30 am.  When we left the house it was 51 degrees  with light rain.  By the start of the tournament it was in the mid-60s, and by the 9th hole turn it was 77 degrees without a cloud in the sky.

BirdieSister Erica Jackson is trying to focus more on her start, but today was not the turning point.  The greens changed speeds two or three times during the round, making putting even more difficult.  She started slow again but managed to overcome some formidable competition.

Results “Dupage County Junior Classic”

Matt Vandenbergh and BirdieSister Myah JacksonThe BirdieSisters played this weekend in the ” Dupage County Junior Classic” presented by Illinios Junior Golf Association.  This tournament is a Junior World Qualifer.  The tournament was held at serveral local courses thoughout Dupage County in Illinois.  BirdieSister Erica Jackson played at Maple Meadows Golf Club in Wood Dale Illinois.  After completing the first round and signing the score card with the score of 89, Erica’s mom informed her that she thought her score card was incorrect.  After talking through the holes, Erica agreed that the score she recorded was inaccurate.  This is called a rule 6-6b (d) violation.  Therefore, at the beginning of the day two Erica declared herself disqualified.  She felt it was the only thing she could do.

BirdieSister Myah Jackson played at Green Meadows Golf  Club in Westmont IIllinois.  Myah is having an inauspicious start to her season.  Her score has not yet reached the point she thinks it should be, however she has found a way to stay competitive.  She managed to lower her score by five shots the second day and overall her attitude about her game has improved a great deal.  For more information about this tournament see; http://dcjc.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/dcjc9/event/dcjc91/contest/10/leaderboard.htm

Double Seconds For The BirdieSisters

BirdieSisters Myah and Erica Jackson     The Birdiesisters played in the Illinois Junior Classic  this weekend at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in West Chicago Illinois.  Myah Jackson competed with the 8 and 9 year old girls and finished in 2nd place.  The theme here was rain, rain go away.  They were only able to play 5 holes in two days due to weather conditions.  Myah learned a valuable lesson in getting off to a good start and that’s what we went out for — the learning experience.

BirdieSister Erica Jackson’s  field was very strong, girls 10 and 11 years old.  She only had  a chance to finish  9 holes on the first day of  competition and then the rain came, and kept coming, so they went to the score card for the finish. Overall Erica’s play is about two steps ahead of pace, which is a very pleasant surprise.

Waiting For Scheduling

BirdieSister Myah Jackson  This is a crucial time of year for the BirdieSisters. We must decide on summer tournament scheduling. With over 40 tournament to choose from, timing and finances will play a major factor. The BirdieSisters play in 4 leagues and will try to participate in all international tournaments for which they are eligible. There are several excellent, independent tournaments in our area that we also try to attend. Here are the schedules for the “Illinois Junior Golf Association” and “Mid-American Junior Golf Tour”.  The goal is to attend most, if not all of these tournaments.
