BirdieSisters Erica and Myah Jackson always find time to fulfill their spiritual needs and responsibilities. Last Sunday the Children of Light, Canaan MB Church’s Children’s Ministry, presented its annual concert. BirdieSisters Erica Jackson, Myah Jackson, and little brother John are a part of the Ministry and the choir. Erica and Myah are also a part of the children’s praise dance team. This is BirdieSister Erica Jackson’s last year in the Children’s Ministry — she was promoted to the Youth Ministry. However, she will continue to help out with the Children’s Ministry through 2010.

Yesterday the BirdieSisters competed in their 8th taekwondo tournament. It was held at Rolling Meadows High School in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. Erica Jackson competed in breaking and sparring, while Myah Jackson competed in breaking.
BirdieSister Erica Jackson’s breaking was 6 breaks (elbow strike, back fist strike, round- house kick, tornado kick, reverse side kick and jumping side kick). This prove to be a winning combination. Erica placed 1st in sparring as well, winning two very tough matches.
BirdieSister Myah Jackson’s breaks were 2 tornado kicks, jumping front sap kick, reverse side kick, jumping round house kick and jumping front side kick. This combination also propelled Myah Jackson into 1st place in her breaking.
Making his first appearance at a taekwondo competition was the youngest Jackson, John. At age 4 and after only 3 weeks of lessons, John finished 2nd in his breaking group.

Along with school and homework, the BirdieSisters’ days are full. The main events for this month include:

- October 10-11 — Mid-America Junior Golf Tour #6 Invitational at Winnetka
- October 18th – Bally’s Taekwondo Martial Arts Regional Tournament in Rolling Meadows, IL

The BirdieSisters and their little brother John plan to enjoy fall harvest festivals and “trick or treating” this month as well!

John Jackson, 3-years old, started practicing golf today with the BirdieSisters. John wants to try out his skills in the summer of 2009. He is looking good!
There is no magical age for a child to begin playing sports. Every child is different. Two of the key factors that signal when a child is ready are: 1) his/her level of focus and attention span; and his/her physical ability (hand-eye coordination, stamina, etc.). While the BirdieSisters began playing golf at 4 years-old, Johh has been displaying signs of readiness since the age of 2. At two-years old, he started gymnastics and began playing organized baseball with 3-5 year-olds.
To determine if your child is ready for sports you should evaluate level of coordination and attention span. Start off slow, remember to bring a ton of patience and your camera.
