On August 29th and 30th the Birdiesisters played in the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour’s 3rd event at Bonnie Brook Golf Course in Waukegan Illinois, 63 miles ( 1 hour 12 minutes) from home. The temps were in the low 60s, windy and wet. Erica Jackson managed to continue her winning streak in the girls 11 and under division. Erica had a great back nine on the second day. Myah Jackson struggled with her short game on day 1 and struggled with the scorecard on day 2. Because Myah failed to accurately record her score on hole number 17, she was disqualified (Myah did not have a caddie or a personal spectator at this tournament). A hard but valuable lesson for Myah to learn at the very tender age of 9. Expect to see Myah fighting back with a vengeance in her next tournament this weekend. Today BirdieSister Erica Jackson played in her last regular season event for the Illinois Junior Golf Association. The event was held at Craig Woods Golf Course in Woodstock Illinois, 62 miles ( 1 hour 26 minutes) from home. The weather was in the low 70s at Erica’s 10:12 tee time. IJGA holds its final YDP 10-12 year-old tournament as an invitational. Erica hopes to receive an invitation to the Geneva Golf Club invitational later in August.
Although Erica didn’t play her best game today, she managed to remain undefeated. Good job Erica! Our goal was to play well, get better and hopefully get some wins along the way. For more info and stats see: http://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga/event/ijga68/contest/7/leaderboard.htm

The Illinois Junior Golf Association held a tournament today at Winnetka Golf Club in Winnetka, Illinois — 26 miles (40 minutes) from home. The weather was great, temps in the mid 70′s with some clouds.
Myah Jackson broke her streak of sub-par golf today. However, she managed to keep a positive attitude about the situation. For example, after ending her round with a birdie on the last hole, Myah displayed a big smile and asked if I wanted to hear the good news or the bad news. Myah then stated, ”the good news is I made two birdies and the bad news is I did not have a sub-par round.” This statement demonstrates that Myah’s expectations of herself have risen to a new level. In fact, she now knows the type of numbers she should put up tournament after tournament. For stats and photo see: http://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga9/event/ijga974/contest/1/leaderboard.htm

On July 18th and 19th BirdieSisters Erica and Myah Jackson played in the Midwest Golf Association’s 54th annual National Junior Championships at “Hawthorne Hills Golf Course” in Lima Ohio, 231 miles (4 hours 19 minutes) away from home. The weather was cool in the low 60s on Saturday and the low 70s on Sunday with clouds and a chance of rain both days.
First, let’s discuss BirdieSister Erica Jackson’s solid performance. On Saturday Erica had a great round on par golf. Even with a double boggy on the 4th hole, Erica had 3 birdies to bring her round to even par. On Sunday Erica’s driver had a mind of it’s owe, she aimed one way the ball went the other way. However, her short game came to the rescue and pulled her to a 3 over par finish. With a two-day total of 3 over par, Erica won the Pee-Wee Girls 10-11 division handley. Great Job Erica Jackson!
Next, let’s move on to BirdieSister Myah Jackson’s record-breaking performance. BirdieSister Myah Jackson had her first boggy free round of golf in her life. Myah choose a great time to add in a couple of birdies to finish 2 under par and set a record for the Pee-Wee Girls 8- 9 year-old division and the low 9-hole score of the tournament. On Sunday the big question was how would Myah handle her first boggy. We found out at the first hole when her tee shot went right and in the rough, forcing her to make a boggy 5. Myah got a boggy on 4 of the first 5 holes and then we saw her attitude change in the middle of the round. She birdied 2 of the last 4 holes, bringing Myah’s two-day total to an even par and making this one of Myah’s best tournaments this year. Today BirdieSister Erica Jackson played at “Sportsman’s Country Club” in Northbrook Illinois, 33 miles (56 minutes) from home. The weather was great with temps in the mid 70s and clear skies.
With the season waining down, BirdieSister Erica Jackson needed to win one out of the last two remaining US Kids tournament to clinch player of the year. The girls both started out well, putting each other’s will to win to the test. However, by the end of hole number seven Erica had a four shot lead and cruised home. Illinois Junior Golf Association held its seventh event today at “Arlington Lakes Golf Course” in Arlington Heights Illinois, 40 miles (53 minutes) from home. Due to an 11:00 a.m. tee time, we had to leave the house at 8:00 to fight Chicago’s rush hour traffic. The weather was a perfect 80 degrees with bright sunshine.
BirdieSister Erica Jackson played well but not as well as yesterday. Spectators were allowed at this tournament so I saw the whole thing. From hole one I noticed that Erica’s approach shot was falling short, therefore adding a whole new element to her round that she did not have yesterday – the chip shot. Driving and putting were adequate. During the ride home I asked Erica what she thought the difference was between the two rounds yesterday and today. She said “I only had one good chip shot today and I just couldn’t get my chipping game going like yesterday.” However, I pointed out that she only had one chip all day yesterday. Her approach shots put her within 12 feet of the pin the entire round.
The BirdieSisters learned a lot of valuable lessons this week so the heavy week of tournament play paid off. Erica played in four consecutive tournaments and managed to continue her winning streak. Today BirdieSister Erica Jackson played in the Illinois Junior Golf Association YDP event at Glenview National 9 Golf Course in Glenview, IL. 38 miles (45 minutes) from home. With an 8:56 tee time we had to leave the house at 7:00 a.m. due to the heavy volume of traffic. The temps were in the low 60′s with light rain.
Erica appears to be fighting her way back to controlling her total golf game. Erica finished in first place by 10 strokes, putting her final score at 3 over par. For results, stats and photo visit:

BirdieSisters Erica Jackson and Myah Jackson played in the US Kids Local Tour event at “Sanctuary Golf Course” in New Lenox Illinois, 40 miles (55 minutes) form their home. The weather was overcast with a temp of 72 degrees at their start time of 2:57 p.m. There was on and off light rain throughout.
BirdieSister Myah Jackson played without a caddy or her own spectators today. Myah’s round was par, par, birdie, birdie, par, birdie, 2 pars and a double boggy. What a round for Myah, she is definitely in a groove! For the first time, Myah came back and issued a hole-by-hole report of her game, including her decision-making process. Specifically, Myah reported that when her opponent and good friend Haniya shot a birdie on hole number 2 and tied their scores, instead of getting emotional (like she has in the past), she focused her thoughts on “scoring under par golf.” It worked! BirdieSister Myah Jackson is growing up and taking control of her game, including her emotions. What a milestone for Myah!
BirdieSister Erica Jackson gained control of her emotions a few years ago. She has always been relatively calm and cool, never displaying much emotion — win or lose! However, lately she has been struggling to execute a comprehensive approach to her golf game — which is causing her some frustration. If its not her driver its her short game. For example, today Erica left her short game at home. Erica shot an 8 over-par, missing several make-able putts. Her driver did manage to find its way back, but the short stick came up short. Nevertheless, Erica grinded her way to first place. Erica will have several opportunities over the next few weeks to pull her entire game back together. Good luck Erica!
