The MAJGT is designed for exceptionally talented junior golfers throughout the Midwest. All tournaments in the 2009 inaugural season are nationally recognized by the American Junior Golf Association and the Junior Golf Scoreboard.
The BirdieSisters Erica and Myah Jackson played last weekend in the MAJGT’s invitational three day tournament at Winnetka Golf Course. The weather was cold. In fact, each day there was a frost delay with temps in the high 30′s at the start. It rained all day the previous day so the course was very wet, as were their feet. The BirdieSisters had not experienced these types of conditions during a golf tournament before, so controlling their ball was even more difficult. The course was 28 miles ( 36 mintues ) from home.
Each day brought new lessons in mental toughness and course management. This was not a tournament where “pace of play rule” came into effect, everyone was moving quckly because of the cold. However, the key was not to rush your shot. Day 1 had high winds, day 2 had ice on the greens — the coldest day of the 3 – and day 3 had a chance of rain. For the last two years, Chicago experienced temperatures in the 80s on this weekend. In any event, the BirdieSisters survived!

The month of October may be the most challenging month of all. Getting started on the right track is important. The BirdieSisters have resumed dance practice four days a week, Taekwondo four days, piano lessons/practice, Girl Scouts, church choir/praise dance practice and three days of golf. Along with school and homework, the BirdieSisters’ days are full. The main events for this month include:
The BirdieSisters and their little brother John plan to enjoy fall harvest festivals and “trick or treating” this month as well!
The Illinois Junior Golf Association held a tournament today at Winnetka Golf Club in Winnetka, Illinois — 26 miles (40 minutes) from home. The weather was great, temps in the mid 70′s with some clouds.
Myah Jackson broke her streak of sub-par golf today. However, she managed to keep a positive attitude about the situation. For example, after ending her round with a birdie on the last hole, Myah displayed a big smile and asked if I wanted to hear the good news or the bad news. Myah then stated, ”the good news is I made two birdies and the bad news is I did not have a sub-par round.” This statement demonstrates that Myah’s expectations of herself have risen to a new level. July is the big junior golf month. Traveling, practicing and playing, this is it! For the first time the BirdieSisters will separate and play in different states. Please keep the comments and well wishes flowing to motivate the girls this month!
